What a High-Touch Agency Retainer Actually Buys
A high-touch retainer is not a list of deliverables. It is a guaranteed answer to four questions every Monday: what landed last week, what is moving this week, what is the founder pre-approving for next month, and what risk are we watching.
It should include: a named senior strategist (not a pod), a press desk reachable in under two hours, monthly in-house photography, a quarterly editorial plan, two cover-track placements per year, and full crisis cover.
It should never include: ghost-written social posts (those should be in-house), pay-to-play placements disguised as earned, junior staff sent to founder meetings, or any deliverable measured purely in volume. If you cannot read the retainer back to a peer and have them recognise it as luxury work, the retainer is the wrong one.
