Anatomy of an Editorial Placement

Open any cover-grade feature and you will find six recurring components: a contradiction in the lede, a domestic detail in the second paragraph, a quote that an editor wrote for the founder (not the other way round), a piece of proprietary data, an image that earns the page on its own, and a closing line that re-frames the entire field.

If you cannot identify all six in your own brand's strongest story today, your pitch will fail — not because the writer disliked you, but because the deputy editor (the person who actually buys stories internally) cannot picture the layout.

The work, then, is to build those six components before pitching. Photograph them. Quote-coach the founder. Pre-write the contradiction. Hand the writer a story they can immediately see on the page. That is what 'PR' actually means at this altitude.
